NEW: Primary School CBD Walks
Perfect for upper primary students, city excursions, empathy, imagination, exploration

The Intersection creates social change through educating about empathy, diversity and connection.
We are a non-profit social enterprise in the heart of the city of Melbourne. With over 30 years experience we exist to create social change through education.
Every year, we facilitate sessions for over 12,000 students from schools across Victoria. Through our story-based city walks and interactive workshops we provide essential tools for understanding and addressing social issues in our community.
We offer unique perspectives and lived experiences that challenge stereotypes and spark curiosity. By inviting students to reflect, imagine and tell new stories, we are actively shaping a more inclusive and empathetic society.
What:
75-minute guided walk and storytelling in Melbourne's CBD aimed at upper primary school aged students.
What to expect:
This session ignites your students imagination as we embark on an extraordinary time-traveling adventure through Melbourne! Each story takes us to a pivotal intersection, a crossroads where fear and curiosity collide, challenging us to choose our path.
As we journey through time and into different city spaces, students will witness firsthand the transformative power of stories and how they shape our society. This isn't just a history lesson; it's a call to action. We invite each student to become the storytellers of tomorrow, crafting the narratives that will define our future. Let’s uncover the hidden corners of Melbourne and discover the stories waiting to be told!
Themes:
Empathy, homelessness, imagination, curiosity, perspective-taking, justice, open-heartedness, societal change, hope, practical action
Aligned with Victoria Curriculum Capabilities:
Critical and Creative Thinking
Critical and creative thinking is central to all our sessions. We aim to inspire and provoke thought, offering a range of stories and perspectives. Core to our beliefs is challenging our assumptions and judgments to see new perspectives and stories and ideas. We believe empathy is the tool to bring this about.
Ethical Capabilities
Our walks revolve around exploring some ethical and social issues (such as homelessness, begging and colonisation) present in Melbourne/Australian society. Our presenters endeavour to unpack differently held positions around these ethical problems.
Intercultural Capabilities
The Intersection works towards demonstrating the importance of reaching understandings within and between culturally diverse groups. We believe that difference is our teacher and diversity is our strength.
Personal and Social Capabilities
Our walk explores stereotypes and how individual, social and cultural differences may increase vulnerability, conflict and dehumanisation. Empathy is the tool to help us recognise and appreciate the uniqueness of all people.

“I really wanted to reach out and express my heartfelt gratitude for your time with us on Thursday! It was such a wonderful experience, and the tour was truly a highlight. You made very strong connections…and have inspired our students through your provocative quotes and stories.”
